THE YOGA OF REST
Why resting can feel so difficult, even when you practise Yoga
A free Masterclass for women who practise Yoga but want to explore what happens when the practice isn't about doing more, but about learning to receive.
Register Below & receive the replay if you can't attend live.
Live on October 16 @7:30pm GMT
You love the moment when the teacher tells you it's time for Shavasana.
You already know that rest & integration is important. You know how to breathe. You may meditate, practise Pranayama, study Yoga philosophy or even teach Yoga yourself.
And yet...
You still find yourself thinking about your to-do list when you lie down.
You feel guilty when you're not being productive.
You tell yourself you'll rest once everything else is done.
You have twenty minutes free and immediately think of something useful you could do with them.
Or perhaps your body stops, but your mind doesn't.
So why is rest still so difficult?
And what does Yoga have to teach us about it?
FIND OUT INSIDE THE YOGA OF REST MASTERCLASS
I don't think you need to get better at rest.
I think you need more practice.
The teachings of Yoga have been exploring the relationship between action, stillness, the mind and our sense of self for thousands of years. Yet it's easy to keep Yoga confined to the mat.
We practise presence on our cushion, and then go about spending the rest of the day being pulled around by every thought, responsibility and demand.
- We practise Ahimsa...Then we override our own limits.
- We practise letting go... Then we struggle to put down the things we feel responsible for.
- We practise stillness...Then we feel uncomfortable the moment we aren't doing something.
The Yoga of Rest is an invitation to look at that gap.
Not through more information, but through practice.
Because I don't want this to be another masterclass where you learn something interesting and then carry on exactly as before, I will be guiding you through a 20-minute Yoga Nidra designed as an opportunity to practise receiving rest.
This is the part where you won't need to achieve anything. You won't even need to clear your mind, or relax "properly". You'll simply be invited to lie down, listen and notice what happens when you stop asking something of yourself.
I think there is incredible value inside this Masterclass, as it draws from my own experience of a woman raised in a family where women have been carrying the "productivity wound" for generations.
BY THE END OF THE MASTERCLASS YOU'LL GAIN
- A new way of thinking about rest. Not as a reward for productivity, but as a practice in its own right.
- A deeper understanding of the restless mind. And why stopping physically doesn't always mean we've actually stopped.
- A practical experience of Yoga Nidra. So you don't just understand the idea of rest, you experience what it can feel like to receive it.
- Questions to take into your own practice. Because the real exploration begins when you start noticing your relationship with rest in everyday life.
A NOTE FROM ME
I've spent years studying and practising Yoga, Ayurveda and Jyotish.
And one thing I've come to understand more deeply is that knowing the teachings and living them are two different things.
We can understand non-attachment and still cling. We can study Ahimsa and still push ourselves past our limits. We can practise meditation and still feel that uncomfortable pull to always be doing something.
This is not a failure of our practice. It is where the practice becomes real.
The Yoga of Rest came from that place.
I don't want to teach you another way to optimise yourself, but instead create space to ask a more interesting question:
What happens when you no longer need to prove your worth through what you do?
That exploration is at the heart of my teaching.

JOIN THE YOGA FOR REST
Inside the Yoga of Rest Masterclass we will try to find an answer to the enigma of rest. You know it's good for you, but that doesn't make it easier.
There is a difference between understanding that rest matters and actually feeling able to stop.
We'll explore the subtle ways productivity, guilt and the need to be useful can make rest feel uncomfortable.
What happens when the body stops but the mind keeps going?
Yoga begins with an invitation to work with the movements of the mind. We'll look at what happens when you lie down to rest and your mind immediately starts planning, remembering, solving and organising.
Drawing from the philosophy of Yoga inside the Yoga of Rest we will reflect on:
- What Abhyāsa can teach us about rest - Yoga asks us to practise again and again.
We'll explore what happens when we stop expecting ourselves to become “good at resting” and instead begin returning to it as a practice.
- What Vairāgya has to do with relaxation - What if you don't have to make yourself relax?
I believe that there are times when we can practise without demanding a particular result? This is a very different way of approaching rest, and one that can take some of the pressure out of the practice itself.
- How Ahimsa changes our relationship with our own limits - What would it mean to stop treating your own capacity as an obstacle?
To listen and pause, before exhaustion sets in and you have nothing left. To allow rest to be part of caring for yourself rather than something you have to earn.
FIND OUT MOREYou'll love this masterclass if:
- You already have a relationship with Yoga and want to explore its teachings beyond the physical practice.
- You know you need more rest, but somehow never quite give yourself permission to take it.
- You feel uncomfortable when you're not being productive.
- You struggle to switch off, even when you have time.
- You can spend an entire evening “resting” while mentally organising tomorrow.
- You find yourself treating rest as something you have to earn.
- You are interested in the deeper, lived experience of Yoga — not just another sequence of postures.
- And you're curious about what might change if being became as valuable to you as doing.
You'll probably find more value in doing something else with your Friday evening if:
- You are after another list of relaxation hacks.
- You need another 10-minute routine you have to squeeze into your already-full day.
- You want another reminder that you “should” be resting more.
- You are looking for a quick fix for a wound that has been in your maternal lineage for generations.
- You want to learn how to quickly find some rest so you can become more productive.
This isn't about escaping your responsibilities or becoming passive.
It's about exploring your relationship with action, stillness and the need to always be doing.
Because Yoga isn't only what happens when we step onto the mat.
This is going into my diary!
Once you register, you'll receive the details for the live masterclass and guided Yoga Nidra.
Come as you are.
Bring a blanket, wear comfy clothes (or PJ'S) and prepare a space where you can lie down comfortably, preferably with your legs elevated on a chair.
And for 60 minutes, practise doing nothing else.
